How do I go back to an earlier version of NextGEN Gallery?

Sometimes after upgrading NextGEN Gallery, our newest version may not be compatible with your current WordPress environment or other third-party plugin and you'd like to go back to an earlier version of the NextGEN Gallery plugin. We encourage our users to keep up to date with WordPress, their theme, and all plugins to keep your site as secure and stable as possible. We test our updates with the latest version of WordPress and some of the most popular WordPress plugins and themes, before we release to the public. If you encounter any issues after upgrading please report them directly to us here.

If you need to access your server files you will need to have knowledge of FTP (file transfer protocol) to access your WordPress plugins folder. We suggest using Filezilla.

WARNING! Some older versions of WordPress may delete all files (i.e. your NextGEN Galleries) associated with a plugin. For this reason we recommend upgrading WordPress first, to the most current version, before following the steps below.

Rollback NextGEN Gallery plugin

*before you begin this process, if you have not yet already - create a FULL backup of your site and then deactivate NextGEN Gallery on your site.

Option 1- Through your [up to date] WordPress dashboard... this process is the easiest way to rollback.

1) Go to https://wordpress.org/plugins/nextgen-gallery/advanced/ , scroll down to the bottom of the page and download an earlier version of NextGEN Gallery and save the .zip file to your desktop. For security concerns we suggest rolling back only one version.

2) Return to your WordPress dashboard and deactivate and delete NextGEN Gallery. If you have NextGEN Pro or NextGEN Plus installed, no need to deactivate them.

3) Navigate to Plugins > Add New > select the NextGEN Gallery .zip file you downloaded to your computer and select install > and then activate.

That's it! You're finished 🙂

Option 2 - FTP

1) Go to https://wordpress.org/plugins/nextgen-gallery/advanced/ , scroll down to the bottom of the page and download an earlier version of NextGEN Gallery and save the .zip file to your desktop. For security concerns we suggest rolling back only one version.

2) Locate the nextgen-gallery.zip file you downloaded and unzip/unpack.

3) Open your FTP client, on the left side (local) locate the unzipped/unpacked NextGEN Gallery folder. On the right side (server) go to /wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/...

- Select ALL (local) NextGEN Gallery files and drag and drop into (server) ...plugins/nextgen-gallery folder.

- If prompted, select to overwrite files.

4) When the process is complete go to your browser and clear cache. Then re-open your WordPress dashboard and navigate to the 'Plugins'.

- Reactivate NextGEN Gallery.

- Confirm that the version number reflects the older version of NextGEN Gallery that you selected.

You're done!
